Jermann: white and red

Andrea Carpi, sales director for Jermann, held a tasting in Vinum boutique.

Jermann is a family producer in Friuli. The story starts its count from 1881, when the Jermanns arrived to Italy from Austria. The present owner Silvio Jermann is known as ’the king of white Italian wines’. He got this title by creating Vintage Tunina, his most famous wine that won the wine ’Oscar’ of Italy on a numerous occasions. Silvio grows international white varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Riesling and local Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Picolit. He also works with the reds — Cabernet, Pinot Nero, Blaufrankisch, Pignolo. At present the vineyards are planted on 140 hectares, the total production is 750,000 bottles.

The tasting featured varietal white wines of the basic range — Sauvignon 2004, Pinot Grigio 2004, Afix Riesling 2003, as well as Vinnae 2004 — a blend of Ribolla Gialla, Tocai and Riesling.

Vintage Tunina 2003 and Capo Martino 2003 — premium whites of the estate — caused a lot of interest. Vintage Tunina consists of Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Picolit and boasts tremendous richness and depth. Capo Martino is named after the vineyard where the grapes for the wine are picked. It is fermented and aged in 700 l oak casks.

The guests had a chance to taste two red Jermann wines — Blau & Blau 2002, from the grapes Blauburgunder and Blaufrankisch, and Pignacolusse 2001, made from the local Pignolo variety.
