Space messages of biodynamic winemakers «Vinnaya Karta» ¹11 (81) December 2006 First large tasting of biodynamic wines presented by the “Renaissance des Appellations” international association was held in Moscow.
It gathered nearly 50 biodynamic wine estates of the world.
Nicolas Joly, the movement’s founder and leader noted at the press-conference that the main goal of winemakers is to help nature express itself and give an opportunity for vineyards to show their particular climate and soils. Biodynamic winegrowers actively work with the energetic forces of the Earth and the space here lies the major difference between biodynamic and organic approach.
The tasting featured a wide range of wines from France, including all leading wine producing areas from Alsace to Bordeaux, and also wines from Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Chile. Among producers were such renowned names as Pierre Frick, Marcel Deiss, Zind Humbrecht from Alsace; Pierre Morey, Trapet, A et P de Villaine from Burgundy; Fleury and Bedel from Champagne; Coulee de Serrant and Domaine de l’Ecu from the Loire Valley; Descendientes de J.Palacios and Telmo Rodriguez from Spain and others.
White wines of the Austrian Nikolaihof and German Sander estates were particularly popular among the guests as well as old vintages offered by Italian producer Emidio Pepe from Abruzzo.
– This year biodynamic winemaking was regularly featured in all leading Russian wine publications. The “Return to Terroirs” tasting nicely fitted in the general mood of the market and became a logical culmination of this interest, said Eleonora Scholes, wine journalist and co-organiser of the tasting.
The association plans to have the next tasting in Russia in the end of 2008.
