Wine by Cavalli
«Vinnaya Karta» ¹10 (91) December 2007

Internationally acclaimed Florentine fashion designer Roberto Cavalli recently launched an unconventional product.

Maison Cavalli now makes own wine, and it is being produced by Roberto’s son Tommaso Cavalli.

The wine project started in 2000, in Tenuta degli Dei estate that is situated close to Panzano-in-Chianti. Despite its location in the Chianti Classico zone, new vineyards were planted to five international varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Grenache. Tommaso Cavali explains the choice by the desire to have cosmopolitan vineyards in which “each of the varietals present can give its contribution to a mixture of perfumes, aromas and flavours that is truly unique”. Vineyards grow in two locations — in Tenuta degli Dei and in Roberto Cavalli’s Florentine estate Il Poggio. They cover 7 hectares in total. A famous agronomist Gioia Cresti and a leading Italian enologist Carlo Ferrini are involved in the project.

Wine is presented in two ‘clothes’. The label for Cavalli Selection features the famous Cavalli prints and will be changed every year. Bottles for more exclusive Cavalli Collection are decorated by the same artisans who make accessories for Roberto Cavalli’s clothes collections.

The debut of Cavalli Selection 2004 took place at the Florentine villa. Wine experts, press, business partners and friends of Maison Cavalli were invited to celebrate the launch.
