 Champagne confirms its pole position Drinks plus ¹10 December 2008 The Italian wine magazine Euposia held first Bollicine del Mondo competition for sparkling wines made by a classic champenoise technology. The entries came from all continents and even such unconventional places as Tasmania, Patagonia, Israel and Moldova. Francois Mauss, president of prestigious tasting group Grand Jury Europeen was involved in judging. The top award went to Champagne Bollinger Brut Special Cuvee which once again confirmed Champagne’s leadership among the regions which specialise in sparkling wines. The second place was taken by English sparkling Camel Valley Pinot Noir 2005, and the third to Champagne Deutz Brut Classic. The jury gave a special diploma to a wine made by Moldovan producer Cricova.
